Once I get singing I just can't stop! Day 14!!!
Today was a lot of fun! spent a lot of time at work but still had a great day. On my lunch I went and bought a book of music! I ended up being very hungry but hey ... you got pick your battles :) I also had an awesome session with Mr. Paul Roth! It was awesome. I swear if I wouldn't have been starving I would have stayed even longer!! Then I got to go home to a meal I had started cooking before my lesson and when I got home the meat was just falling apart and perfect! THEN... I got a Christmas present.... from my sweetheart... The middle of January is the best time to get a Christmas present because you are not expecting it... He even wrapped it and everything :) Too cute!!
Yay My new Solia hair straightener!
Daily Practice Session
Technical Concepts - Today I warmed up as I drove to the session with Paul... I only got about ten minutes in between work and there so then when Paul and I got together we went over some exercises together. We did some goo-goos, lip trills, nay-nay exercises on sounds and then on scales... (don't really know the terminology for that...)

Repertoire - On the way home from working with Paul I just could not stop singing :) I just kept singing the songs we went over. Mainly Summertime from Porgy and Bess. Then I decided to do some of the la-le-li-lo-lu that I need to master! and a little la-la-la-a-a I still felt really weak on the higher part of my middle voice... not very consistent and weak. I think that I just need to cry through it but I am not exactly sure how to do that.
18 Minutes
Successes – I felt like I could really feel the cry in my voice when I did the other la-la-la-a-a exercise.
Areas for improvement – I need to be more aware of what exactly the exercises are specifically for... I know when I am doing them right... I am just not always sure what it is that I am working on... or how to describe it!?
Notes: I need to be able to feel the confidence I felt today when I am singing in front of people.
Coaching Sessions
Date/time - January, 14, 2010
Instructor - Paul Roth
1 hour and 45 minutes
Repertoire - We went over almost everything in my book at least four times, some of them many more times. The only thing we didn't go over was King of Anything and Skylark bc I needed to eat and we were coming up on two hours, plus I didn't want to keep Paul all night. Songs we worked on: Be Still, In My Own Little Corner, Stepsister's Lament, Here's Where I Stand, Summertime.
Points covered – Paul helped me hear a couple different times that I was just completely ignoring the embellishments on a couple different songs. He also helped me to feel more confident with the opening notes of the songs we worked on. This was very helpful bc that is definitely an aspect that I need work on!
Notes: I just could not stop singing tonight... It was like a drug! I felt like my voice was filling the whole space we were in and it felt good. After I sang my voice didn't feel stressed at all but it did feel a little tired... I wonder if that is because I am not used to singing for two hours...?
Clearly we were losing it by this time!!
Meal Description Home-made Chicken Tacos with lots of lettuce and tomatoes, salsa and lime, and cheese.
Restaurant or Market – Costco,Smiths, Sunflower Market, Trader Joe's
Rating – ***** - such an easy meal and so delicious too I love making this classic meal that my momma taught me! It is like a present when I do get around to making it!
I also would like to show off my very first book of music. I am very excited to have it and learn the song!
Well good night guys! Hope every one had a great day as well :) zZzz
